The editors liked
Incredibly polished device
Great all-purpose mobile camera
IOS 8 is fantastic
The exposure compensation control – a sun symbol on a thin line – is welcome. The integration of the new controls won't disturb the point and shooters but will delight the serious photographer. Video quality is superb and there is slow motion available.

Almost like the iPod Touch as a phone
Reachability (double-tap home) is a neat idea for larger phones
Fast 4G speeds

Still great for one-handed use
The nicer looking of the new iPhones
Great camera
Vibrant display
Aesthetic
Simple software
Premium aluminium body
Proficient camera modes
Great performance
Improved screen size and vibrant display
Better fitness tracking tools
Improved camera
NFC capability (eventually)
The editors didn't like
Some specs aren't as high as they should be
Some features don't work in Australia yet
Expensive
Skin colour in bright sunlight is too ruddy
With a general tendency to oversaturate reds. RAW capture would be the icing on the cake
Still pricey
Screen too lowres
Battery life isn't much better than it is on last year's iPhone 5S. And there's wasted space
An even larger screen could have been squeezed into the same housing
Screen is larger
But not really a huge improvement
Fixed storage with no way of upgrading
Slippery
Hand-hold for thumb at the bottom is a bit of a balancing act with a phone this size

There can be no doubt about it, the Galaxy S5 is an impressive smartphone, built to last and a top performer. Personally we will stick with our more understated iPhone with its prettier build and more accurate display. But no longer will we hold our nose ...

Manufacturing quality, Thin body, Superb display, Fluid, responsive OS, Among the best cameras of its generation (even though it has "only" 8 Mpx and no OIS), Sound quality (headphones and speaker), Battery life getting better
Protruding camera lens, The screen:facade size ratio could be improved (screen only 66% of facade), Some games could have better graphics, NFC limited to use with Apple Pay, High SAR value, No 32 GB model
More comfortable, faster and longer-lasting, the iPhone 6 a worthy successor to the 5s. It's versatile and not as massive as the 6 Plus, and we like that. It isn't without fault (for one thing, the body could have been smaller while keeping the screen the...

Our iPhone 6 vs HTC One M8 comparison shows us that Android phones are now every bit as capable as iPhones, although not in this case sufficiently different or better to make us want to switch. The HTC One M8 enjoys excellence in design and build, is a to...
To plagiarise our own introduction to this review, the new iPhones are Apple's finest achievement as a smartphone maker, elegantly proving less really can be so much more in a cramped room of clones. But it comes at a price. The iPhone 6 starts at £539 f...
Beautiful hardware, Good fingerprint login, Fast and efficient, NFC is limited
The iPhone 6 is a lovely handset. Beautifully crafted in terms of hardware design, with fingerprint recognition that just works, a great screen and efficient processor. iOS 8 adds lots of tweaks while keeping the familiar look and feel intact. It has to b...
Great 4.7-inch screen, Good all-round camera, Class-leading performance, Great new software features
Expensive, Shorter battery life than rivals
The iPhone 6 is Apple's best phone yet – but we expected nothing less. It might not be a design classic like the iPhone 4 or iPad mini, but it nevertheless looks and feels great. Like the 5S before it the iPhone 6 manages to do everything with aplomb – it...
