  • Lightweight Toshiba Kirabook still feels very premium
  • And it deserves credit for being one of the first Windows laptops to feature a better-than-HD display. Thanks to an updated CPU
  • Battery life is now good enough for all-day use
  • Toshiba's Kirabook has a brilliant higher-res screen
  • Powerful components
  • And a slick
  • Sturdy design
  • Plus display tweaking software for photo and video experts
  • Attractive design elements with a monolithic aluminium build
  • Powerful hardware and impressive overall performance
  • Full HD display with a matte finish for outdoor use
  • Harman / Kardon speakers and decent battery life
  • Brilliant 2
  • 560-by-1
  • 440 resolution screen
  • Very light
  • Premium materials and look
  • Two-year warranty

  • 199 this is an expensive beast. But is it worth it? My view is yes for the simple reason that an Ultrabook of this ilk is going to get used and the last thing you want if you use an Ultrabook every working day is one that cannot last the test of tim
  • Beautiful screen that is crazy sharp
  • Insanely light
  • Sturdy and very well built
  • Fast enough for most
  • Comes with a premium support service adding two years and dedicated support line

The editors didn't like

  • Battery life is merely OK. Needs a bit more "bang for your buck"
  • Loud fan
  • No Ethernet dongle
  • Higher-res screens are more common now
  • And available for less. The generic brushed-metal look isn't particularly distinctive given the price
  • The basic look hasn't changed in the past couple of years
  • While the competition is catching up. The touchpad isn't as responsive as it should be
  • Price to performance ratio is considerably high
  • Mediocre webcam quality
  • The Final Verdict
  • Toshiba has been successful in correcting almost all of the major shortcomings of the older Kirabook in its latest offering. The extended battery life
  • Slimmer
  • May have to adjust zoom or screen resolution for apps
  • On the downside Toshiba needs to work on the cooling fan and the problems associated with the sheer resolution of the display screen
  • Neither of these two small issues take away from the fact that this is the best Ultrabook we have ever seen.
  • Trackpad driver needs work
  • Not everything is optimised for the high-resolution screen
  • Mediocre battery life

  • The Toshiba Kira cannot approach the outstanding battery life of its Apple rivals. It does manages to combine good overall speed and a high-resolution display with a truly ultraportable design. That's a difficult trick to pull off, and it makes the Kira o...

  • Well-rounded performance, Thin and light, Display Utility software helps interface scaling
  • Doesn't look the price, So-so keyboard, Short battery life, Poor value
  • The new revision of Toshiba's Kirabook is in every way a better laptop than its predecessor, but the competition has also improved and high-resolution displays have become more common, detracting from the system's main selling point. Indeed, we think th...

  • High-quality, high-resolution screen, Fast Core i7 processor, Smart-looking design, Good touchpad, Fantastic battery life
  • Lack of attention to detail, Middling integrated graphics, Average keyboard, Inconsistent screen scaling, High price
  • The Kira is fast, with a high-quality screen and superb battery life, but it just doesn't have the all-round quality to justify its high price. The smart design doesn't stand out nor have the attention to detail we demand from this level of system, the ke...

  • Despite its shortcomings, this is one rock-solid ultrabook Toshiba crafted a gem of a computer with the KIRAbook 13 i5-Touch. For $1,499, you get a proficient processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB solid-state hard drive. Those last two points—the RAM and...

  • The audience Toshiba is pursuing with the Kirabook is the well-to-do professional who is willing to pay extra for high-end hardware and services. The Kirabook is the most beautiful Ultrabook to pass through our Test Centre, but its inability to drive a la...

  • Beautiful, rich high resolution screen, Touchscreen option is actually useful, Thin, light yet extremely sturdy chassis, Fully specced with all the latest hardware, Backlit keyboard with excellent travel, Harmon Kardon speakers pump out good sound
  • No network port – wireless only, Fan can be loud and annoying, Touchpad can activate Windows 8 swipe gestures too easily, Not a Haswell processor
  • The Toshiba Kira Ultrabook is hard not to like. With the high resolution and full range of features, if you're looking at Ultrabooks, I can imagine this finely crafted machine being near the top of your wish list. The fan does run loud sometimes and the b...

  • Abstract:  I was a little hard on Toshiba's original Kirabook. Okay, I was a lot hard on it . In my view, the company's engineers committed a few critical design mistakes that severely undermined the Ultrabook's claim to luxury status. I'm happy to report that Toshi...
