The editors liked
Superior material construction. Platinum warranty. Highresolution display.
Excellent screen
Sturdy build quality
Swift performance
The slim
Lightweight Toshiba Kirabook still feels very premium
And it deserves credit for being one of the first Windows laptops to feature a better-than-HD display. Thanks to an updated CPU
Battery life is now good enough for all-day use
Toshiba's Kirabook has a brilliant higher-res screen
Powerful components
And a slick
Sturdy design
Plus display tweaking software for photo and video experts
Attractive design elements with a monolithic aluminium build
Powerful hardware and impressive overall performance
Full HD display with a matte finish for outdoor use
Harman / Kardon speakers and decent battery life
Brilliant 2
560-by-1
440 resolution screen
Very light
Premium materials and look
Two-year warranty
Including tech support and Internet Security
Includes Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements
At $2
199 this is an expensive beast. But is it worth it? My view is yes for the simple reason that an Ultrabook of this ilk is going to get used and the last thing you want if you use an Ultrabook every working day is one that cannot last the test of tim
Beautiful screen that is crazy sharp
Insanely light
Sturdy and very well built
Fast enough for most
Comes with a premium support service adding two years and dedicated support line
The editors didn't like
Battery life is merely OK. Needs a bit more "bang for your buck"
Loud fan
No Ethernet dongle
Higher-res screens are more common now
And available for less. The generic brushed-metal look isn't particularly distinctive given the price
The basic look hasn't changed in the past couple of years
While the competition is catching up. The touchpad isn't as responsive as it should be
Price to performance ratio is considerably high
Mediocre webcam quality
The Final Verdict
Toshiba has been successful in correcting almost all of the major shortcomings of the older Kirabook in its latest offering. The extended battery life
Slimmer
May have to adjust zoom or screen resolution for apps
On the downside Toshiba needs to work on the cooling fan and the problems associated with the sheer resolution of the display screen
Neither of these two small issues take away from the fact that this is the best Ultrabook we have ever seen.
Trackpad driver needs work
Not everything is optimised for the high-resolution screen
Eyepopping screen, good looks and build, strong performance, bundled extras.
Expensive, value depends on interest in extras

The Toshiba Kirabook is the first real foray into the world of high-density displays on Windows 8 laptops, but it's not necessarily the polished, high-end product that you may be after. I was immensely pleased with the crispness, sharpness and clarit...
Ultrabooks are getting so thin that computer makers are likely tempted to cut features like backlit keyboards or squeezing keyboard and trackpad real estate. Cutting corners won't just save them money – it can save them space in systems that have little t...
Very high-resolution touchscreen, Thin, light, and extremely quiet, Rigid lower chassis
No DisplayPort, Flimsy lid, Disappointing contrast in the display, Wi-Fi adapter doesn't support 5GHz networks
The Kirabook looks the part of a luxury laptop, and it's the first Ultrabook to compete with Apple's Retina lineup. But Toshiba made some disappointing decisions on the way to a $2000 price tag....

Good screen, excellent build quality, and thoughtful design, Great keyboard, serviceable trackpad, Nice selection of ports, Good-enough battery life given the screen and the computer's size and weight, though it could be better, Metro-style apps scale nic
No 5GHz Wi-Fi, an unfortunate oversight for a device this expensive, Ivy Bridge, while still an able performer, is weeks away from being replaced by Haswell, Speakers distort a bit at high volumes, Lots of fan noise under load, High starting price and no
At a price that reaches $2,000, a KiraBook can cost as much as a pair of lesser ultrabooks. However, if you want a computer that comes with everything, can outperform the pack and has been built to last, it may be money well spent. This article, KiraBook r...

No 802.11ac or 5GHz Wi-Fi. Small bezel makes some touch gestures inconvenient. May have to adjust zoom or screen resolution for apps. Integrated graphics
The Toshiba Kirabook ultrabook has a breathtaking screen. However, that screen doesn't necessarily justify the system's high price point....
