The editors liked

  • On the looks and efficiency front it is as good as any other Android tablet out there.
  • The Acer Iconia Tab offers Android Honeycomb (upgradable to Android 4.0) on a 10.1-inch screen along with GPS
  • Front and rear cameras
  • Adobe Flash compatibility
  • Full-size USB host port
  • HDMI output
  • And a reasonable price
  • Sturdy and well constructed design
  • USB and HDMI-out ports
  • Android Honeycomb 3.0 OS
  • Solid performance. Loads of connectivity options including USB and HDMI
  • Fast
  • Lots of RAM
  • Host USB Port

The editors didn't like

  • Acer's A500 Iconia Tablet has a long way to go before it is on a level footing with the Motorola Xoom or the Toshiba Honeycomb Tablet. While it is stylish and functional it needs a software makeover to bring it up to speed.
  • The Iconia Tab is thick
  • And one of the heaviest consumer tablets we've seen. Some locally stored HD video files wouldn't play properly
  • A little chunky and heavy
  • Screen difficult to see in sunlight
  • Too heavy to hold for long periods. Glossy screen is hard to read outdoors. Average battery life
  • Moderate Battery Life
  • A little heavy
  • Screen terrible in sunlight

  • Abstract:  Acer's Iconia Tab A500 is considered an underdog in the Android tablet fight. We go over why it still a worthy contender and explain how to get USB support without rooting. Also, we get to take Honeycomb 3.1 for a test drive on this mobile device. Ther...

  • Abstract:  What Mobile puts Acer’s 10-inch tablet to the test, to see if Honeycomb 3.1 has made Android a more serious player in the tablet market. When we tested the Motorola XOOM, the first Android 3.0 tablet to enter the market, we thought the Honeycomb operating ...

  • Good looks; speedy processor
  • Weighty; not all will like Honeycomb; battery life average
  • A good looking tablet and the best Android device we've seen from Acer, the Tab A500 offers a decent alternative to the Motorola Xoom...

  • Nice screen, Honeycomb OS, 32GB internal memory
  • Uninspiring design
  • The Acer Iconia A500 features a 10.1in screen with a capacitive touch layer – just like the Asus Eee Pad Transformer and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. This size has become the standard for Android Honeycomb tablets, and it's something that's unlikely to change...

  • Fast processor; Android 3 works well; includes GPS and document editor; lots of connections,
  • Heavy; battery life not so great,
  • A fast and well-designed tablet computer, though it's a little heavy for our liking ...

  • USB, HDMI, working microSD slot, Honeycomb hasn't been too badly interfered with
  • Acer's software additions are largely dismissible and bring little value, design is rather clunky, size, short power lead, poor video support out of the box
  • You can’t go too far wrong with the Acer Iconia Tab A500 and it’s certainly worthy of consideration if it fits your budget and you crave that USB port or HDMI. Given how quickly Acer prices tend to drop, it could soon be a bargain too. But the design w...

  • Fast apps and excellent screen quality,
  • Extremely heavy and still quite pricey.
  • Although the Acer Iconia Tab A500 is one of the weightiest tablets on the market - and comes with a heftier price tag than the iPad 2 - it has a powerful processor, fast performance, bright and clear screen and user-friendly app management. ...

  • Acer has produced a fine product with the Iconia Tab A500. Its performance closely matches that of the Motorola Xoom but it is lighter, offers more connectivity and has a working microSD slot to expand the storage capacity. There was no 3G support in...

  • Abstract:  Looking at the spec sheet, it's a good start for the A500. It has the ubiquitous Nvidia Tegra 2 processor inside and Honeycomb is proving itself a more than capable as an operating system. Acer also tells us that there'll be a free update to the latest ve...

  • 720p video playback, More rugged than most, Bright screen, Docking station, USB port
  • Shorter than average battery life, Short charger cable, Wide bezel, No video rentals, Some minor crashes
  • A very good tablet that beats the BlackBerry PlayBook in its performance but sits slightly behind the Motorola Xoom because of its less attractive design...
