The editors liked

  • On the looks and efficiency front it is as good as any other Android tablet out there.
  • The Acer Iconia Tab offers Android Honeycomb (upgradable to Android 4.0) on a 10.1-inch screen along with GPS
  • Front and rear cameras
  • Adobe Flash compatibility
  • Full-size USB host port
  • HDMI output
  • And a reasonable price
  • Sturdy and well constructed design
  • USB and HDMI-out ports
  • Android Honeycomb 3.0 OS
  • Solid performance. Loads of connectivity options including USB and HDMI
  • Fast
  • Lots of RAM
  • Host USB Port

The editors didn't like

  • Acer's A500 Iconia Tablet has a long way to go before it is on a level footing with the Motorola Xoom or the Toshiba Honeycomb Tablet. While it is stylish and functional it needs a software makeover to bring it up to speed.
  • The Iconia Tab is thick
  • And one of the heaviest consumer tablets we've seen. Some locally stored HD video files wouldn't play properly
  • A little chunky and heavy
  • Screen difficult to see in sunlight
  • Too heavy to hold for long periods. Glossy screen is hard to read outdoors. Average battery life
  • Moderate Battery Life
  • A little heavy
  • Screen terrible in sunlight

  • Best port selection we've seen on a tablet, Speedy performance, Great-sounding speakers, Robust Windows sync app
  • Mediocre battery life, Google Voice not supported yet, Finicky Clear.fi utility
  • This Honeycomb tablet holds its own with plenty of features. If good connectivity and audio matter most, it's a smart choice. ...

  • Android works well, decent media performance, a bit cheaper than rivals
  • But it feels cheaper, too, confusion of apps at times, a tad glitchy
