Acer's A500 Iconia Tablet has a long way to go before it is on a level footing with the Motorola Xoom or the Toshiba Honeycomb Tablet. While it is stylish and functional it needs a software makeover to bring it up to speed.
The Iconia Tab is thick
And one of the heaviest consumer tablets we've seen. Some locally stored HD video files wouldn't play properly
A little chunky and heavy
Screen difficult to see in sunlight
Too heavy to hold for long periods. Glossy screen is hard to read outdoors. Average battery life
If you add up the cost of buying a case, cradle, keyboard, and apps, tablets continue to be expensive mobile devices to own, despite their compact dimensions. The Iconia A500 isn't any different from other tablets; you're paying more than you would for...
Display looks good in normal light, Wide screen format and resolution great for watching 720p HD movies, NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual-core Processor gives good performance, Micro-SD card slot for expanding storage, Has ports for adding USB accessories like a keybo
Too few Honeycomb tablet apps, Battery life shorter than the iPad, Honeycomb OS is buggy and unstable, Housing for SD card feels flimsy, Power charger bulky and not USB based, Can't use USB port for charging yet, Display not bright enough in direct light,
1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual Core Mobile Processor, NVIDIA GeForce graphics, Micro HDMI, Full-size USB 2.0 port
Adobe Flash isn't preinstalled (Update: It is pushed to tablets via an update available as of 7/8/2011), Limited to 720p output via HDMI until an update is released (Update is available as of 7/8/2011)
We're seeing a lot of Android tablets hit the market. What's more, many of these tablets offer similar specifications, including a 10.1-inch screen, dual-core processor, 16GB (or more) of storage, and Wi-Fi capabilities. Some tablets also have 3G or 4G ce...
Abstract: I just got ahold of an Acer Iconia Tab A500 tablet running Android's Honeycomb 3.0 operating system. If you already own an Android smartphone, want a tablet that supports external storage, doesn't need a dongle to connect to a HDTV or perhaps just like th...
Abstract: Page 1 of 2 Long battery life, a bright, 10-inch HD screen and full-size USB host port are hallmarks of Acer's Iconia Tab A500, which the CRN Test Center has been evaluating for the last few days. Running Android 3.0.1 Honeycomb on a dual-core NVidia T...
Quiet operation, Bright high contrast display, Good case quality, HDMI, Docking station, Relatively good battery life
Reflective display surface, (up until now no UMTS available), Too small distance between USB ports, Micro connectors require special cable, MicroSD card slot difficult to reach
Acer's Iconia Tab A500 is a solidly put together tablet, which considering its weight, adopted materials, and appearance, offers good basic features. The battery life is good, and will last between 3 and 6 hours in practice depending on the type of use. T...
