Acer's A500 Iconia Tablet has a long way to go before it is on a level footing with the Motorola Xoom or the Toshiba Honeycomb Tablet. While it is stylish and functional it needs a software makeover to bring it up to speed.
The Iconia Tab is thick
And one of the heaviest consumer tablets we've seen. Some locally stored HD video files wouldn't play properly
A little chunky and heavy
Screen difficult to see in sunlight
Too heavy to hold for long periods. Glossy screen is hard to read outdoors. Average battery life
The Acer Iconia Tab is an impressive piece of equipment. We don't like its heft, but as a functional tablet it's excellent. The problem for Acer is that there's nothing here that makes the Iconia stand out from the crowd....
At more than fifty quid over the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, we can’t help but feel that the Acer Iconia Tab A500 is something of a raw deal. It’s far too heavy and lacks the killer keyboard integration. Of course Asus’ slate is selling out everywhere ri...
The screen isn't perfect but it's still very good and highly contrasted, Highquality build and finish, Smooth Android interface with nice additions from Acer, Plenty of connections and good sound output, Good for web browsing and games
Battery life is OK but could be better, Native multimedia compatibility, Camera is too red or too blue, Honeycomb needs to mature
Apart from the fact that Honeycomb is still finding its feet, the Acer Iconia A500 is a very good tablet indeed. It doesn't have the best battery life, but its design, hardware and extras compared with most of the competition make it a genuine alternative...

Fast and fun to use, Great Web browser with Flash support, USB port makes syncing easy, Slightly cheaper than the Xoom
Good Honeycomb apps and widgets are currently hard to find, Plastic case looks fairly cheap, Heavier and larger than the Xoom
The Acer Iconia Tab A500 tablet is a relatively heavy hunk of plastic, but its Android 3.0 Honeycomb software is a treat. The A500 will be even more fun to use when Google makes it easier to find dedicated Honeycomb apps....
The Acer Iconia A500 Android tablet offers many benefits: a sturdy and well constructed design, USB and HDMI-out ports and the attractions of Android Honeycomb 3.0. It's a little chunky and heavy, and the screen is difficult to see in sunlight, but ove...
Abstract: #4 in our 2011 Tablet Countdown. At first glance, Acer’s Iconia tablet appears to be a wee bit chunky, and very solid. A closer look reveals that while it’s thicker and heavier than most tablets, it’s got good reason to be – the Iconia is the most featu...
