The editors liked

  • Blazing fast focus speeds
  • Insane burst rate
  • Incamera 4K video
  • For testing the camera was used for fast snapping of informal portraits and action shots at an indoor and outdoor event. It was teamed with the full frame 2870mm FE lens and the results were excellent. Focus is fast and exposure and colour were spot on. T
  • The Sony A6300 delivers class-leading photo and video quality
  • Plus good performance and features for shooting action

The editors didn't like

  • Dated ergonomics
  • Compared with other cameras in this price range the a6300 is short on instantly accessible controls
  • Myriad small annoyances mar the experience and it has the trademark poor battery life of Sony's A series. Plus it really could use in-body image stabilization

  • The A7 cameras, especially the later Mark II models, maybe seem to be the brighter stars in the Sony mirrorless firmament, but the A6300 definitely deserves a place here as the more compact – and essentially cheaper – alternative. Only the original A7 cos...

  • It's hard to find fault with this camera. Yes, it's expensive, but not crazily so. I'd imagine that there'll be better deals available for the A6300 if you're willing to wait a few months.Price aside, it's a camera that delivers everything you could want...

  • A respectable update to its very popular A6000 mirrorless interchangeable-camera model, the Sony A6300 remains great but also retains some of the drawbacks of its predecessor...

  • The a6300 is a fine camera that competes with the Olympus OMD E-M1 ($1300) and the Fujifilm X-T1 ($1138) both of which are configured as more serious cameras. The Sony wins for its 4K video and widescreen monitor and exceptional auto focus function. Both...

  • The ILCE-α6300's improved AF system certainly appears to offer faster lock-on and better tracking of moving subjects than the system in the previous camera. But its lack of consistency is concerning, particularly for photographers who favour moving subjec...

  • 4K video quality, High speed autofocus system, Can connect an external mic
  • Takes some time getting used to, LCD display isn't touch-screen,
  • We can look past a non-touch LCD display, and getting familiar with new equipment is part of the job as a filmmaker. Once you toss those fears aside, you're left with the Sony Alpha A6300: a high-performing camera that captures your ideas in 4K resolution...

  • Abstract:  Enthusiast cameras like Sony's A7R III, the Nikon D850 and Fujifilm's X-H1 get a lot of attention. The good news is that nowadays, you can spend less than $1,000 for a camera body and get almost as much as you would with a model with three times the pric...

  • Abstract:  Last updated: November 21, 2017Quick. Unpredictable. Unwilling to sit still. Kids really are the ultimate test for a camera's autofocus system. Thankfully, the past few years have seen advances in autofocus technology make their way into more cameras. We'...

  • Abstract:  Last updated: November 21, 2017There's no doubt that the digital revolution made it easier than ever before to pick up a camera and start learning photography. But it hasn't necessarily gotten easier to choose your first camera. There are dozens of capabl...
