Even though the AW100 is Nikon's first attempt at a rugged compact camera, it doesn't show. The AW100 is easy to use, and has a range of features well suited to action adventurers and everyday photographers....

We do have a question about the useability, in extreme situations, of a camera with such small buttons. Nikon is no different from other cameras in the indestructible category
The Nikon goes up to the top of desirable indesctructibles, alongside the Canon Powershot D10 and Panasonic FT10. We took the camera to the Zoo, shooting in harsh contrasty light and were pleased with the auto exposure and the detail preserved in extreme...
This camera is easy to use and control, especially underwater
The image quality isn't up to par with other cameras in our comparison
The Nikon S33 underwater camera's shining quality is its simple functionality. It doesn't have complicated menus or rows of small buttons, so it's ideal for beginning photographers. Unfortunately, the photo quality is below average when compared to top pe...
Very nice allweather camera: waterproof, dustproof, dropproof, can shoot in freezing weather, 720p and 1080p HD video, and dedicated video button, Bright, highres antireflective 3.0inch wide viewingangle LCD, Good picture quality, Integrated GPS can be ve
Controls very small, Some buttons failed to function at depth, Feature set somewhat playful for a tough outdoor camera, Only one underwater still setting, no underwater video setting, No underwater manual white balance or adjustments, No optional deepwate
the Coolpix AW100 is a decent first attempt at a waterproof outdoor camera after a long absence from this niche. We'd like to see the camera simpler to operate, and the functions and controls better matched to the intended use...
Appealing design, Waterproof, shockproof and freezeproof, Large, textured shutter button, Very little geometric distortion, Close macro shooting, Accurate viewfinder, Fairly high resolution, Fast startup time, Full-autofocus shutter lag is fast, Good s...
Buttons are hard to press, Lens has soft corners that extend fairly far in toward center, both wide and telephoto, Lower contrast at telephoto (not unusual, though), Lens is a little dim (starts at f/3.9), Moderate chromatic aberration in some shots, F...
Overall, the Nikon AW100 worked well enough, but I really did have a tough time with the buttons. They're just too hard to press. I took a lot of shots with EV set inadvertently to underexpose (a whole outing, in fact, which has never happened before -...
The Nikon Coolpix AW100 has good rugged specifications for its price and solid GPS performance. The camera is also fairly easy to use out of the box
The AW100's slow lens requires more use of high ISO settings or slow shutter speeds. Its controls feel spongy and occasionally unresponsive due to the waterproofing and the body's somewhat slippery
The rugged Nikon Coolpix AW100 is a fine choice for shallow water or dry land adventures -- just make sure you have plenty of light.
Abstract: Tough, waterproof point-and-shoot cameras are supposed to be awesome. Small enough to fit in your pocket. Submersible to depths of 40 feet. Able to survive drops from heights above a man's head.We put four of these cameras through gadget hell to determine...
