The editors liked

  • Used with the Canon EF 24-105mm L lens image quality is superb. The resolution is such that small areas of the image can be cropped and enlarged without loss of detail. Low noise performance is exemplary at the highest ISO settings. And the movie mode ...

  • Captures neutral colours
  • Works well with high ISO speeds
  • Full frame

The editors didn't like

  • While the high definition movies are excellent we do have reservations about the utility of this feature. To work properly the camera needs to be tripod mounted and the focus needs to be constantly tweaked manually. The user manual says “auto focusi...
  • No dedicated dial for aperture
  • LCD screen doesn’t flip out
  • Awkward focusing in Live View mode
  • No manual overrides in movie mode
  • Automatic white balance isn't great in artificial light

  • Abstract:  The Canon EOS 5D Mark II is a worthy successor of the EOS 5D. The principle features remain the same: a full-frame sensor in a relatively compact body, but Canon has added extra professional features such as sealing against the ingress of dust and mois...

  • Superb 21MP images. ISO sensitivity of 25,600 means you can shoot even when the sun goes down.
  • Heart attackinducing price tag. Autofocus in movie mode isn't the best.
  • The slick Canon EOS 5D Mark II accurate shots every time you click that shutter shut, shutterbug. Superb!...

  • HD video, automatic sensor cleaning on power down, expandable ISO settings (up to 25,600), pre-set capture modes, automatic lens correction
  • Expensive, no built-in flash, no in-camera anti-shake (which means that, ideally, a stabilised lens is required)

  • So while the Canon EOS 5D Mk II is a major development of the original, it's never going to enjoy the same near-monopoly as its predecessor. So what's changed? The sensor resolution has gone up from 12.8 megapixels to 21. The 2.5-inch 230,000 pixel LCD ...

  • The video capabilities of the Canon EOS 5D MkII make it ideal for news gatherers, indie filmmakers or even the all-consuming Internet. After all, why shouldnt on-line video content be good-looking? As a DSLR, it’s a real upgrade from the old 5D. It&...

  • Excellent image quality, good ergonomics and build, menu system, comprehensive feature set and customisability, info panel, responsive, HD movie capture
  • Joystick and Quick Dial take getting used to; slight underexposure issues, Mode dial easy to inadvertently jog, battery and memory card slot covers are flimsy, no built-in flash unit
  • Canon’s EOS 5D Mk II refreshes the original 5D in light of stiff competition. The feature-rich 5D Mk II boasts an in-vogue and rather superb 1080p HD movie mode but looks very priceyKey specs21 megapixels, CompactFlash, HDMI...
