The editors liked

  • Incredible screen
  • Ivy Bridge processors
  • Fast solid state storage
  • Gestures trackpad
  • Great battery life
  • The new 13-inch Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display adds a screen that's nearly as high-res as the 15-inch version
  • Making for incredibly crisp text and images. The slimmer body feels much more modern
  • And the excellent keyboard and trackpad remain
  • Great screen. Apple's usual excellent keyboard and trackpad. Dual thunderbolt and USB 3.0 gives decent port flexibility. Good battery life. HDMI

The editors didn't like

  • Very expensive
  • No FireWire 800 or Ethernet ports
  • No optical drive
  • Very difficult to repair or upgrade
  • 15inch model might be better value
  • Considering that this looks and feels a lot like the 13-inch MacBook Air
  • You may be in for a bit of sticker shock
  • Especially as the base model only includes 128GB of SSD storage
  • The base near the monitor gets quite hot during heavy tasks. Still waiting for everything to be high DPI compatible. Weight will make some consider the Air instead

  • Screen, screen, screen!, Thin, Strong performance, Excellent speakers
  • Very expensive for performance level, Increased costs for repair and battery replacement, Few applications ready for Retina at this time, Performance issues with some browsing
  • Since the new laptop is so much thinner than the previous model, the cooling system had to be completely redesigned in order to compensate for the same-ish thermals in a smaller case. New vents have been sliced into the bottom sides of the notebook – thes...

  • Abstract:  This week we take a look at Apple's brand new MacBook Pro with Retina display, arguably the best laptop ever made. It's thinner, it's lighter, and it's borderline insane in many ways — a whopping 2880 x 1800-pixel display, no ethernet port, no optical dri...

  • Abstract:  The new MacBook Pro with Retina Display is more tempting in the flesh and many MacBook buyers will up sell themselves to the pricey machine once they put their hands on it. There's no doubt that the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display sets a new standard,...

  • The screen is the best that we've seen on a 13inch laptop and the battery life is still the best in the business..
  • The premium price for the Retina display account for almost a third of the price, meaning a non Retina version costs substantially less
  • Apple's latest MacBook is thin, light and boasts excellent battery life, but the premium price doesn't offer the value of the previous MacBook Pro which remains on sale....

  • Stunning display; faster
  • Memory not upgradeable
  • The new Retina MacBook Pros represent a subtle refresh to the line of beautiful, ultra-high-resolution portables introduced last year. The price reductions for the 13-inch models make them a better bargain than before, while the 16GB of RAM in the high-en...

  • Google Chromebook is light, has luxury build qualiy, Retina display, powers-up quickly
  • Cloud-centric operating system, no 4G model in the UK, not as versatile as Mac OS X

  • Superb high-res screen, Excellent build quality, Attractive design, Powerful specs (aside from graphics)
  • Expensive, No dedicated graphics, No Touch, Decent but not great battery life
  • Apple's MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display is a worthy smaller sibling to the earlier 15-inch version, bringing the MacBook Pro and Air lines closer together than ever with its gorgeous, sleek chassis. It's beautifully crafted, offers great ergonomic...

  • Stunning, super high definition screen, Slimmer and lighter than previous model, Sturdy build quality
  • Ludicrously expensive, Performance is only average, No Ethernet port, No option to upgrade RAM
  • The 13-inch MacBook Pro boasts a superb high-resolution display and a slimmer, lighter physical design than its predecessor. Sadly, its average performance doesn't justify the astonishingly high price....

  • The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display isn't a major leap forward in technology, but it didn't need to be. A better processor, battery life, faster storage and a Force Touch touchpad make it a worthwhile upgrade for those using almost any non-Retina...
