The editors liked
Incredible screen
Ivy Bridge processors
Fast solid state storage
Gestures trackpad
Great battery life
The new 13-inch Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display adds a screen that's nearly as high-res as the 15-inch version
Making for incredibly crisp text and images. The slimmer body feels much more modern
And the excellent keyboard and trackpad remain
Great screen. Apple's usual excellent keyboard and trackpad. Dual thunderbolt and USB 3.0 gives decent port flexibility. Good battery life. HDMI
The editors didn't like
Very expensive
No FireWire 800 or Ethernet ports
No optical drive
Very difficult to repair or upgrade
15inch model might be better value
Considering that this looks and feels a lot like the 13-inch MacBook Air
You may be in for a bit of sticker shock
Especially as the base model only includes 128GB of SSD storage
The base near the monitor gets quite hot during heavy tasks. Still waiting for everything to be high DPI compatible. Weight will make some consider the Air instead

The MacBook Pro with Retina Display hasn't quite dipped into the consumer laptop price range. The MacBook Air's flag is still firmly planted in that territory. But it is inching closer. For $300 more than the 13-inch Air, the entry-level rMBP gives you bet...
Amazing display. Thin and light, only about half a pound heavier than MacBook Air. Flash memory is super fast. $500 cheaper than 15inch version. Many more apps are Retinaenhanced than when the 15inch model first came out.
Can't upgrade RAM at all. Can't upgrade storage after initial purchase. No quadcore option or discrete graphics card. Apps not updated for Retina display are unbearably blurry

Abstract: In June, Apple released its first Retina display-capable laptop, the phenomenal 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display. Last month, the company unveiled the next member of the high-resolution family, the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina.Apple boasts that ...
Slimmer chassis with lower weight, Build quality, fit and feel, overall sturdyness, HDMI and USB 3.0 are on board, Very good input devices, keyboard backlight, High resolution IPS display with 227 DPI, Convincing performance, Speakers sound very good, Bat
Port selection somewhat limited, No dongles included, System is not expandable, Warranty is only 12 months, Not many BTO options, Display brightness fluctuates; bleeding is an issue
Apple MacBook Pro 13 Retina (Late 2012) The Apple MacBook Pro 13 with Retina is a logical addition to the Apple portfolio. The new member is a lot lighter than the regular Pro and more portable than the larger MacBook Pro 15 Retina . Visually the two sys...

In terms of actual performance, the Intel i5 processor isn't as fast as the quad-core i7 I'm used to - which is obvious, but it was interesting to see the difference. Encoding a two-and-a-half hour video took an hour longer than on my own laptop. So w...
Abstract: When Apple execs debuted the new Mac lineup for the holidays last month, they noted that the 13-in. MacBook Pro was already the best-selling Mac. Both its power and small size have been key to this success...
When I reviewed it, I really liked the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro. It's very fast, amazingly portable given its size and has a wonderful display. Its 13-inch counterpart, takes the portability to a completely different level. While I loved toting the 15 a...
The build is a goddamn idealized MacBook. And there's a reason that most other laptop makers have been trying, with various degrees of success, to catch up with Apple's aesthetic for the past several years. It's not just the screen, though that's the cent
The guts-based, pixel-chewing performance simply doesn't measure up. It's not just the graphics performance being too similar to a MacBook Air, or the minor but perceptible systemwide slowdown when you use a higher resolution setting. It's the way that yo
This is probably the best 13-inch laptop you can buy right now, for all the good itll do you. Sure, this computer makes some sense for a photographer or designer, but the 15-inch Retina offers almost all of the same benefits, plus a lot more if you can s...

Retina display is honestly a joy to use, Solid, nice-looking design, Battery should last a full work day for most users
No quad-core processor or discrete GPU options, something many pros probably need, Entry-level 128GB of storage is just too small for a pro laptop, If you ever need more than 8GB of RAM, you're out of luck
In the end, the 13" Retina MacBook Pro is a solid laptop. Despite this, it's not the greatest value. If you want a 13" laptop with a Retina display, you have to accept quite a few compromises: no quad-core CPU, no discrete GPU, an 8GB RAM limit, and expen...
