Provides virtual surround sound in normal stereo headphones and headsets; works with video game consoles, PCs, Macs, and any other analog or digital source with an optical audio interface; solid bass booster; supports in-game chatting.
Inconsistent surround-sound performance; included cables may not be long enough; final set up is cluttered and awkward; no devoted AC power option.
Though the DSS has its moments of excellence, most are less than stellar. Factoring in the clutter associated with setting up such a device, we think gamers who are passionate about surround sound are better off buying something that natively supports...
Abstract: Is the EarForce DSS worth 90 bucks? After all, a variety of PC apps feature headphone sound enhancement. But if console gaming and movie playback are a big part of your life, like your favorite stereo ’phones, then yes, most definitely.
