The image quality is excellent
As is to be expected from a sensor also used in DSLRs. The WiFi sharing with smartphones is brilliant – just download the PlayMemories Mobile app and the camera and phone find each other and start communicating in a trice.

Tilting screen, Good controls, Touchscreen, Good selection of filter effects, Excellent image quality
Tilting rather than articulating screen, Nonstandard hotshoe, Filter effects JPEG only

It's a great camera choice for high-quality stills and a streamlined shooting design under $800, but the Sony Alpha NEX-5R falls short when it comes to sharing your shots online....
Superb image quality; one of the most compact cameras to shoehorn in a DSLR-sized sensor; option of using touch screen for operation in tandem with physical controls; new wireless connectivity option for use with smartphones and tablets

We said of an earlier version of the NEX it was the sensible alternative to a DSLR for most people and that is even more true of the NEX-5R. The range of E-mount lenses is constantly growing, so the NEX-5R is the basis of a system that can be as simple or...

It's a very good camera, and the new autofocus is noticeably faster than the AF system on previous NEX cameras. But it's changed the price situation on the whole NEX series — the excellent NEX-F3 is only $599. So are these improvements really worth it? Ma...
Abstract: Sony's latest E-mount camera, the NEX-5R has a very similar body design to the NEX-5N but includes the flip-up monitor from the NEX-F3. Equipped with a brand new 16.1-megapixel APS-C sized sensor with overlaid Phase Detection AF pixels, it introduces WiFi...
Abstract: Unchanged features from the NEX-5N include the accessory shoe, battery and memory card support. Like the 5N, the new camera has no viewfinder but can accept the optional FDA-EV1S XGA OLED accessory finder, which sells for AU$349. The NEX-5R will be availa...
Abstract: Though they're not major, its on the top where we see the main external control enhancements. First, Sony now rings the shutter button with the power switch. This move frees up the back corner to house the best addition on the camera: a second control dia...
