The editors liked

  • Image quality is excellent. We used the Carl Zeiss 24–70mm lens which is ruinously expensive ($2214) and absolutely sublime
  • Optically and mechanically. Video quality is the best we have had from a DSLR and the continuous autofocus tracking
  • Controlled by
  • 24.3MP
  • Noise under control
  • AF Range control
  • Articulating screen
  • The Sony Alpha a99 SLTA99V has a lot going for it
  • Including excellent photos and very good video
  • A wellconstructed and welldesigned body
  • Solid performance
  • And a great feature set.

The editors didn't like

  • The electronic viewfinder is a 2.4m dot screen
  • But it still has the feeling of looking at the subject on television
  • Unlike the traditional mirror/prism viewfinder that is unbeatable for realism
  • AF slower than rivals'
  • Poor noncross type AF
  • Object Tracking mode is limited
  • For some folks
  • Things like the lack of CompactFlash
  • Poor battery life
  • And compromises on video autofocus may not be reasonable tradeoffs

  • AF slower than rivals', Poor non, cross type AF, Object Tracking mode is limited
  • There's no question that video is becoming an increasingly important feature for DSLR-style cameras. Sony's DSLT design makes the new Alpha cameras more suited to video shooting than more traditional cameras with a reflex mirror. With a tilting screen, a...

  • Full frame, Excellent high ISO output, inbody image stabilization system works with all lenses, 1080p@60 video, Stereo mic and headphone inputs, 14bit RAW output
  • Small coverage area for AF, also, AF tracking accuracy lags behind its competitors
  • A good full frame DSLR with an amaizing low light performance. It is a fully loaded camera capable of delivering consistent results in a wide range of shooting scenarios for both your still photography and video....
