The editors liked

  • Very good sequential performance
  • Light
  • Yet sturdy construction
  • Power efficient
  • Good speeds
  • Decent price (although Crucial drive is cheaper)
  • The Seagate 600 SSD offers fast performance and is available in the new ultrathin 5mm thickness

The editors didn't like

  • Could perhaps be a little lighter
  • Bad timing with Crucial's latest drives undercutting these
  • The new SSD requires the same power as a regular laptop hard drive
  • Its current estimated cost is comparatively high
  • And there's no 3.5-inch drive-bay caddy included

  • Seagate's first SSD, Metallic Casing, Decent Performance
  • SSDs with better performance available for the similar price
  • As its first consumer class SSD, Seagate did a pretty good job. One should note however that performance is mediocre. For the price that you're paying for this drive, you could get similar/bit better drives. Most likely this drive will end up as one of...

  • Abstract:  Solid state drives have come down significantly in price over the last few years, so it’s now cheaper than ever to upgrade your PC. While 120/128 GiB units offer the best compromise between price and capacity in most cases, some users may opt for a 480...

  • Back in 2008 when Intel leashed the X25-M SSD, I would never have predicted that Samsung would be the company leading the charge on next generation storage technology. Sure they have access to their own DRAM fabs and all that, but being one of the smaller...

  • Good price/performance ratio relative to its primary competition.
  • Bottom Line, The Seagate 600 is the manufacturer's first consumer solidstate device, and it's a great first effort with some unique features

  • OEM packaging does not include any accessories, Does not support hardware based encryption
  • With the 600 SSD, Seagate has made its long awaited entrance into the consumer solid state drive market. This thin, yet rugged, drive combines Link A Media Devices' (LAMD) LM87800 controller with Toshiba's 19nm Toggle mode MLC NAND flash to deliver a ...

  • Abstract:  All the major players are jockeying for position in an effort to get you the consumer to purchase their SSD. Seagate has thrown its hat into the ring with the launch of their 600 Series SSD. This drive is aimed squarely at most of you; the mainstr...

  • Abstract:  Over the past few months, Seagate, Samsung and OCZ have launched new versions of their 2.5-in. consumer-class internal solid-state drives (SSDs) -- the Seagate 600, the OCZ Vertex 450 and the Samsung 840 Pro Series. Each boasts 500MB/sec. peak performa...

  • Available in both 7mm and 5mm thicknesses, Top-end performance on some of our benchmark tests
  • Higher power consumption than other current-generation SSDs, Merely modest small-file performance, More overprovisioning may lead to longer drive life, but also means less available storage space
  • Seagate’s first consumer-focused SSD is an admirable effort that delivered very good performance on several of our benchmark tests. Laptop upgraders, however, will want to mind its power consumption at idle, and value hunters will want to weigh this ...
