Image quality is on a par with the competition from Canon and Nikon. Autofocus in Liveview is astonishingly fast and accurate.
Good design and build quality
Good autosystem
Good image quality

Auto white balance is disappointing. The camera doesn't get anywhere near adjusting for tungsten light. It is best to shoot RAW for ease of colour correction in post camera processing
Some improvements needed in design
K7 is £300 cheaper

Though the K-5 posts solid scores, what we don't see in these results are factors like control and usability. It is there that the K-5's video capabilities dip into the realm of "unusable." The K-5 does not allow control over shutter, aperture, ...
Tight, no-nonsense design and construction, Unusually compact body for a prosumer camera, but still packed with features, Magnesium alloy exterior (except plastic panel around LCD), Piezoelectric dust removal technology, Weather, dust, and cold (14°...
Complicated interface, easy to get lost if you're not familiar with the camera (but very intuitive once you are), Camera strap D-rings make noise, Flash sync socket cap isn't attached to the camera, and is easily lost if not screwed in tightly, Default...
With the launch of the K-7 two years ago, Pentax played to its strengths by creating a digital SLR that was not only feature-rich, but also surprisingly compact for a weather-sealed, magnesium alloy-bodied camera. The K-7 was an important product for t...

If you're a Pentax owner looking to step up, the K-5 is a worthy upgrade from the K-7 or any other Pentax DSLR. You'll get a noticeable amount of added resolving power, at least an extra stop of usable ISO, and if you don't mind noise, sensitivity up to I...
Bestyet AF system, great image quality, weathersealed design, superfast continuous shooting
Underwhelming 1855mm kit lens, limited buffer (incapable of 7fps burst in Raw mode), no AF in movie mode, MotionJPEG only movie files
At first glance the K-5 may seem a lot like the K-7. While, in some respects, this is true, it's actually a camera that delivers quite a lot more. Image quality is stunning through a large portion of the ISO range and some of the unique features such a...
Superior image quality, Fast continuous shooting and AF, Nice build and ergonomics,
No movie record button, Lacks manual video controls, Expensive
Given that the Nikon D7000 boasts similar performance, build, and image quality, but checks in several hundred dollars cheaper, we’re a bit reticent to give the Pentax K-5 the 5-star rating that it probably deserves. Make no mistake though, the Pentax ...
Abstract: This review is going to be different to what I normally write; to begin with I will forgo the usual multi-part format and keep it to a single article. Furthermore, it’s going to be a live review in that I will be updating it as I go along and learn ...
The Pentax K-5 combines the proven design of the K-7 with an exciting new 16.3 megapixel APS-C sensor to create an appealingly well-specified, intuitive and customisable DSLR with few real drawbacks. Virtually identical to the K-7, Pentax haven't take...
The Pentax K-5 shows exceptional image quality while improving upon the previously unmatched feature-set of its predecessor. Its wealth of features, many of them uncommon, helps users take better pictures. The combination of automatic horizon correcti...
Good detail and dynamic range (even better in RAW), Exceptionally low shadow noise in RAW files at low ISOs, One of the best APS-C DSLRs in terms of high ISO image quality, Very good build quality and handling, Maximum ISO of 51,200 at full resolution, 1080p HD video mode with basic editing built-in, Useful electronic level and composition adjustment functions, Comprehensive customization optio
AF system not as versatile as Nikon D7000 (which is a cheaper camera), Lockable exposure mode dial can be annoying, No dedicated movie shooting button, No AF during movie shooting, Poorly implemented live histogram in live view/manual exposure mode (doesn't show final exposure), No 'live' aperture control during movie shooting, Shadow Correction mode doesn't take full advantage of K-5's sensor,
We liked the Pentax K-7 a lot, and our only significant criticism was its relatively poor high ISO performance. The K-5 brings all the things that we liked about the K-7 - the compact, solid body, and generally well thought-out ergonomics, and excelle...
