Is an excellent camera
So the fundamentals of the K01 are fine. Colour and exposure are good.

Good image quality
Compatible with Kmount lenses
Good build quality
Wide viewing angle LCD
Excellent image quality. Love-it or hate-it design. The 40mm pancake lens is ridiculously slim. Can use old Pentax K-mount lenses without an adapter
The editors didn't like
Dated looking menu
The kit lens autofocus is slow
Noisy and imprecise. Images are soft. This may be attributable to the kit lens or it could be because of the change from phase detection auto focus in the K5 to contrast detection in the K01. Other makers get better perform
Bulky and heavy
Slow and noisy autofocus

As photographers, we should be interested in how our photographs, not our cameras, look and to judge the K-01s appearance in this test would be purely subjective. What is important about a camera, though, is that it feels comfortable for a photographer t...
Great image quality, compatible with existing K-mount lenses
Noisy autofocus that can be slow and is poor at longer focal lengths, no viewfinder possibility, boxy design, lack of prominent grip inconsistent with K-mount concept, too expensive, confused concept
Similar to a DSLR without the mirrorbox, the K-01 is too big to be considered a ‘compact system camera’. It’s a confused product that just doesn’t cut it. Autofocus won’t keep up with competitors, it’s noisy in use and the boxy design lacks the necessa...
Original, innovative design, Generally good build quality, Image quality at all ISO settings, Compatibility with Kmount lenses with no adapter, integrated stabilisation, Pleasanttouse screen, accurate display quality (sharpness, colours etc.)
Unusual design, grip could be better, Rubber connection port cover feels a bit cheap for a camera at this price, Not as responsive as other hybrid compacts, especially in low light, Bulky compared with other mirrorless cameras
The Pentax K-01 is a bold camera, pairing standard SLR lenses with a hybrid mirrorless body and a compact camera's autofocus system. The result is a camera that's bulkier than its competitors and which can't quite match their performances—except when i...

Works with Kmount lenses, Good image quality, Simple, clean design
Unique design may not appeal to everyone, Bulkier than other mirrorless system cameras, Heavy, Pricey
The Pentax K-01 delivers good image quality due to its 16-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, and offers great value if one considers the fact that it's the only mirrorless system camera on the market that can support an existing DSLR lens lineup without the nee...
