Is an excellent camera
So the fundamentals of the K01 are fine. Colour and exposure are good.

Full K-mount lens system support
Good image quality
Compatible with Kmount lenses
Good build quality
Wide viewing angle LCD
Excellent image quality. Love-it or hate-it design. The 40mm pancake lens is ridiculously slim. Can use old Pentax K-mount lenses without an adapter
The editors didn't like
Dated looking menu
The kit lens autofocus is slow
Noisy and imprecise. Images are soft. This may be attributable to the kit lens or it could be because of the change from phase detection auto focus in the K5 to contrast detection in the K01. Other makers get better perform
Bulky and heavy
Slow and noisy autofocus
$799 (body)
$849 (40mm F2.8 XS lens)
$849 (DAL18-55mm lens)
Slow autofocus
Delay on shutter
Card door flops open
Odd placement of some controls
Frustrating autofocus issues. Might be too chunky for some people's hands. Video quality not up to par

If you're with a bunch of photographers and want to get noticed, just pull out a Pentax K-01. Love it or hate it, the Marc Newson-designed camera has a one-of-a-kind style that'll certainly turn heads. The K-01 is about more than just looks, though - ...
The K-1 looks very good value for money and Pentax has exploited its sensor-shift system in a variety of clever and fascinating ways. It feels robust, responsive and well designed and could be a very important camera for Pentax...
The K-1 is great news for loyal Pentax owners. You finally have something to upgrade to if you fancy going the full-frame route – and why the hell wouldn't you? It's also a superb value alternative to the big guns from Canon and Nikon, and I suppose Sony...

Great full-frame image quality, An abundance of clever modes (5-axis stabilisation sensor, Used for Horizon Correction, Pixel Shift Resolution, Astrotracer), Flex-tilt monitor leads the way in its field, It's a bargain
Lens selection more limited than Canon/Nikon (or just harder to source), Autofocus system not as on point as the competition, 4.8fps isn't as fast as competition either, No touchscreen
The Pentax K-1 is one of the more interesting DLSR cameras we've seen in recent years. One, because it's the first digital full-frame camera from the company - and about time too. Second, because it crams in so many features - many of which its better-kno...
In face of competition from the rest of the industry Pentax had no choice but to join in the large-sensor end of the CSC market, and chose to do so trading on the unique feature of its widely-supported lens mount system. Unfortunately that means it lose...
We found the Pentax K-01 camera to provide excellent images but its boxy design and uncomfortable weight lets it down when set against other compact mirrorless cameras. The K-mount, while handy if you already own compatible lenses, ultimately leads to its...
