The editors liked

  • The image quality from all Olympus Pen cameras is excellent and the Mini is no exception. The Super Control panels works so well that it makes the lack of control buttons less irksome. Auto focus is fast and accurate.
  • Clear image quality
  • Good high ISO performance
  • WYSIWYG LCD screen
  • Small and cute design. Fast autofocus. Easy-to-use menu system. Attractive price compared to other cameras in its class

The editors didn't like

  • The menu system has been criticised for is complexity. No one will come across the activation of the Super Control Panel by accident. The full user manual is essential
  • And pointandshooters won't read it
  • Which is a pity
  • Flash not built in
  • Video capture is "wobbly"
  • No hand grip. Screen difficult to see in sunlight. Average video quality

  • Built-in stabilisation works with any lens, 1080i60 movie mode with PASM, Standard hotshoe with an accessory port, Fast start-up and quick AF response.
  • Lacks a touch or tilting screen, Movie stabilisation artifacts, Incorrect control labels when customised, Single-use accessory port.
  • The Olympus PEN Mini E-PM1 fills a gap in the PEN range that until now really only catered for enthusiast photographers. Rather belatedly, Olympus has woken up to the fact that equipping it's Micro Four Thirds bodies with auto exposure modes isn't eno...

  • Ever since Olympus unveiled their 2011 PEN camera lineup, eyes have been on the so-called “PEN Mini,” the E-PM1. It’s the cheapest, most compact PEN yet, but still comes with an image sensor that is nearly identical to Olympus’ top of the line E-P3. W...

  • With good still image quality and excellent HD video capability, Olympus positions the E-PM1 as a worthy competitor in the entry-level Micro Four Thirds class.

  • The new Olympus E-PM3 is a great start to a new series of smaller, lighter and sexier PEN cameras, taking the design cues of the E-PL3 further without sacrificing too much in the way of features or ease-of-use. It may not have the tilting LCD screen o...

  • Good photo quality, Responsive (but turn Review off!), Compact, solid, nice design
  • Interface not completely intuitive, Forget ISO 12,800

  • Fast autofocus system. Extremely compact. Accessory port for optional EVF. Incamera art filters,
  • High noise at ISO 1600 and above. No builtin flash. Fixed rear LCD.
  • The PEN Mini delivers impressive speed performance, especially when you consider its price point. The camera can boot up and shoot an image in about 1.2 seconds and averages only 0.2-second from shutter press to image capture. When set for high speed b...
