The Mitsubishi HC5000 is an excellent projector, producing among the best images from any high definition projector at any price. If I was spending $8,000 on a new projector, this is the one I would buy.
During the initial setup, I noticed that the auto iris was very slow to respond to the average picture level on the screen, so I set it to Open. I generally prefer a non-dynamic iris in any event, and this setting helped maximize the peak white level....

Relatively inexpensive for a 1080p projector; accurate color decoding; solid video processing; well-rounded feature package.
Iris settings are not good enough for dedicated darkened theater setups, and consequently blacks are not as deep as the best 1080p projectors.
