The editors liked
The Surface Laptop has a slim
Modern design and comes in a selection of cool colors. Battery life is very good
And the keyboard and touchpad are both excellent
Slim design
Includes the excellent Surface touchscreen
Excellent keyboard and trackpad
Supports Windows Hello face-based login
You can remove Windows 10 S and switch back to the more useful Windows 10 Pro
When only a clam shell will do
The editors didn't like
The included Windows 10 S operating system can only install preapproved apps by default (but it's upgradable). The long-term life of the fabric covering remains a question. The cooler colors are only available in more expensive configurations

Windows 10 S is not for everyone
I like it. I would likely take the free upgrade from W10S to Pro as I am a power user but I can see where it makes sense in education and other environments. Perfect for students!Love the coloursCompetitorsDell XPS 13, HP x360 SpectreTags AustraliaClam sh...

As good an idea as Windows 10 S is, it's just not practical, Only one USB port, No USB Type C or Thunderbolt, No microSD or SD card slot, Easily scratched
If you don't mind a scuff or two and love the idea of warm and fuzzy keyboard, Microsoft's Surface Laptop is a solid option, provided you get rid of Windows 10 S ASAP and make the move to Windows 10 Pro.We get it, Microsoft, we really do, and grant you th...

As a first stab at a proper lightweight notebook, the Surface Laptop is a capable and accomplished offering. It's held back slightly by the omission of USB-C port and the decision to ship it with Windows 10 S, but it's otherwise an absolutely superb devic...
Fair play to Microsoft, the Surface Laptop might sound like a mess on paper but in the cold light of day it's a unique joy to behold. From its classy carpeted aesthetic to its new Windows 10 S operating system, there's a lot that's different about this Sur...

Abstract: The Surface Laptop might not have turned many heads if it had been the first mobile computer from Microsoft. It's not as radical and influential as the Surface Pro or as crazy looking as the Surface Book. From afar the silver Surface Laptop looks like som...

Abstract: Microsoft's new Surface Laptop says nothing about the future of technology. The team in Redmond didn't concern itself with the way things will be in 2025-which ports users will want, what kind of device they'll use, how they'll feel about bezels. Instead...
