The editors liked

  • The 13-inch MacBook Air has been updated with the latest Intel CPUs for better performance and battery life. Backlit keyboards make a welcome return
  • Excellent performance
  • Superb design
  • Great battery life
  • Fast performance. Quick boot. Excellent battery life. Thunderbolt capable. Backlit keyboard
  • Beautifully designed
  • Performs very well
  • Backlit keys are great

The editors didn't like

  • The 128GB SSD drive is a lot smaller than a standard hard drive. This also starts at $100 more than the 13-inch MacBook Pro
  • RAM isn't replaceable
  • No matte screen option
  • Still pretty pricey
  • Design hasn't evolved much. Still low in the storage stakes. Parts of the base get warm. Lacks ports common in other laptops. Thunderbolt isn't much use — yet
  • Screen could be better quality
  • Lion can be a little weird to get used to

  • Abstract:  Apple ‘s original 2008 Macbook Air was like a human beatbox – a crowd-pleaser that quickly turned out to be, well, just plain annoying. The then ‘world's slimmest notebook' slid from Steve Jobs' manila envelope promising a new era in ultraportable computi...
