The editors liked

  • The 13-inch MacBook Air has been updated with the latest Intel CPUs for better performance and battery life. Backlit keyboards make a welcome return
  • Excellent performance
  • Superb design
  • Great battery life
  • Fast performance. Quick boot. Excellent battery life. Thunderbolt capable. Backlit keyboard
  • Beautifully designed
  • Performs very well
  • Backlit keys are great

The editors didn't like

  • The 128GB SSD drive is a lot smaller than a standard hard drive. This also starts at $100 more than the 13-inch MacBook Pro
  • RAM isn't replaceable
  • No matte screen option
  • Still pretty pricey
  • Design hasn't evolved much. Still low in the storage stakes. Parts of the base get warm. Lacks ports common in other laptops. Thunderbolt isn't much use — yet
  • Screen could be better quality
  • Lion can be a little weird to get used to

  • It's a tad disappointing that Apple's latest MacBook Air didn't last quite as long in our battery test as its predecessor, but it's still more than good enough for all but the longest trips. It's still the best ultraportable laptop you can get thanks t...
