The editors liked

  • The JPEG image quality is very good and
  • For those prepared to go the extra mile
  • The RAW pictures are stunning
  • The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II delivers excellent photos
  • Speedy performance
  • And a broad feature set in an attractive
  • Compact package
  • Tilting screen
  • Full manual control
  • WiFi compatibility
  • Excellent lowlight performance

The editors didn't like

  • The tradeoff of the small
  • Pocketable form is that the various function buttons are tiny
  • But the lensconcentric adjustment ring compensates
  • The camera tends to clip bright highlights more than we typically see
  • And the slippery body lacks a grip. Plus
  • The lack of a manually triggered macro mode might put off some fans of close-up photography
  • No touchscreen
  • Limited WiFi functionality

  • We're waiting for the assessment on the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 from our labs to see just how well that will fare, but it too has a 1/1.7-inch type sensor which appears unable to match the larger Sony chip. Until such time that rivals adopt the Sony u...

  • Tilting screen, Full manual control, Wi-Fi compatibility, Excellent low-light performance
  • No touchscreen, Limited Wi-Fi functionality
  • The biggest bugbear at the moment is the Sony RX100 Mark II's price, which will hopefully come down in due course. As it stands, it seems like a good idea for Sony to continue to market both versions of the camera at the same time, the original Sony RX100...

  • A great electronic viewfinder that doesn't increase the size of the svelte Sony Cyber-shot RX100 III is one of the camera's highlights. Plus it offers excellent performance, photo and video quality
  • The camera shuts down when you retract the viewfinder, the autofocus system could be more consistent, and it has poor battery life
  • The Sony Cyber-shot RX100 III is an overall great camera that delivers significant improvements over the RX100 II, but not everyone will think it's worth the extra cost....

  • Abstract:  The lines between mobile and technology continue to blur and as a mobile site, we often need to look outside the mobile sphere to find the devices that can influence the next generation of mobile technology. The Sony RX-100 Mark II camera is arguably one ...

  • Superb image quality, great for video and very nice camera to carry around.
  • The buttons are a bit fiddly and the settings sometimes hard to access. It can be difficult to use and there's little good creative fun available
  • It's a definite hit for the purist photographer but it won't be the whole family's cup of tea because it's not a lot of fun. Sometimes enthusiasts need a little enthusing too....
