The editors didn't like

  • The lack of a subwoofer means the Beam lacks deep bass compared to sub-equipped competitors. You lose some connectivity options on TVs that lack ARC. Google Assistant and Apple AirPlay 2 haven't been added yet
  • Don't buy it if you expect great things from Alexa
  • Not as big impact as the Playbar or Playbase
  • No Google Assistant (yet)
  • Needs more support for smart assistants
  • No wall-mount option

  • Let me tell you something about Sonos. All of the problems I mentioned above? The investment, the platforms, the cables, the specs — they all disappear once you start using the product. Every Sonos product is solid, and the Beam is no exception. This is m...

  • Easy set up, Alexa inside, Wide soundstage
  • Bass lacks detail, No Bluetooth audio
  • The Sonos Beam has a lot going for it. At the top of the list, there's Alexa, which brings smart-speaker functions into your living room. With the promise of Google Assistant and AirPlay 2 on the way, this speaker won't become obsolete anytime soon. It de...

  • Sounds great in a small to mid-sized room, Assistant-agnostic approach is admirable, Affordable, Does a good job of handling multiple services
  • Very expensive in a 5.1 surround configuration, Takes up an HDMI port, Not every assistant works in the same way
  • Sonos' talent has always been taking something deceptively complicated and making it serenely foolproof. That used to be multi-room music; now, it's getting multiple assistants and streaming platforms to work together without an AI uprising. For the most...

  • Abstract:  In the world of soundbars, to say there's variety in what's offered, and how much you can pay, is an understatement. Searching "soundbar" on Amazon sees companies like Vizio offering a basic $75 option that's no-frills and pretty well-received, while big...

  • Affordable price, Alexa voice control, Links with other Sonos speakers
  • More optimized for TV sound than music, Requires HDMI ARC for voice control of TV
  • Sonos' compact, Alexa-enabled soundbar offers impressive performance for the price. All in all, a smart value...

  • Easy setup; great, full sound; lower costofentry than other Sonos home theater speakers; better sound and more flexible than Apple's HomePod
  • Only works with other Sonos speakers for surround sound and subwoofer. With a $699 Sonos SUB as the only subwoofer option, that's a pricey step
