The editors liked

  • Beautiful minimalist design
  • Sounds as good as it ever did
  • Balanced solid sound for music and movies
  • Works with rear speakers in the Sonos system
  • Supports the other Sonos multiroom speakers
  • The best 5.0 Dolby Atmos soundbar we have tested
  • For 2.0 to 5.1
  • The EQ allows you to fine-tune it for clear dialogue or other sound signature
  • Does a great job with psychoacoustic Dolby height projection
  • The price is right
  • Does not need the sub-woofer
  • Typical quality Sonos sound
  • Easy to set up
  • Can be optimised for your space
  • Can play HD music

The editors didn't like

  • Improvements on the original are minor (if even noticeable at all)
  • Inclusion of Atmos seems like a minor thing
  • And not the reason you'd buy it
  • Atmos is simulated
  • And so doesn't give you that full 3D effect like on the Arc
  • You can't update to a full 3
  • Adding the two rears/sub means you should look at dedicated 7.1.2 or higher DA systems
  • Only one HDMI port
  • Won't play Dolby Atmos on older TV without HDMI eARC

  • Deft, poised and weighty sound,Expansive and well-defined presentation,Good control options and app,
  • No HDMI passthrough, Not the sonic height you might hope for,
  • The Sonos Beam 2 delivers delivers mild but definite improvements on the (outstanding) product it replaces, with performance that defies its dimensions. It's not quite as emphatically Dolby Atmos-y as might have been hoped, and the lack of HDMI passthroug...

  • Wide soundstage, HDMI eARC support, Hi-res audio compatibility, Compact design, Easily upgradeable
  • Slightly more expensive than the original, No upfiring tweeters, TruePlay only works with iOS devices
  • The Sonos Beam (Gen 2) is a great upgrade compared to the original soundbar, coming with Dolby Atmos support, HDMI eARC compatibility, and a refreshed design. Although we weren't entirely convinced by the virtual Atmos on offer, this soundbar sounds fanta...

  • Effective handling of Dolby Atmos, Warm, refined sound, Streaming smarts,
  • No additional HDMI ports, Doesn't support DTS:X,
  • The Beam Gen 2 not only lives up to the high bar set by its predecessor but exceeds it by a margin that more than justifies its new feature set and higher cost. The decision by Sonos to use processing power and forward-facing drivers to recreate Dolby Atm...

  • The Sonos Beam is now a little more expensive, but it's worth it. The additional immersion offered by the speaker's virtualized Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound take an already capable soundbar for movies and music and make it that much better. If you h...

  • Abstract:  New TVs are generally thin, which is great for how they look on your wall or in your entertainment center. However, that's not so good for how they sound. Speakers typically need a lot of space to produce good audio (with a few unique technical exceptions...

  • Abstract:  Despite its cult following across the world, Sonos is a brand that has not been very popular in India. That could change soon with the kind of focus the company has been showing in the India market of late. And this festival season it is lining up new pro...

  • Pros, Big sound field for its size, Full and crisp sound, from low-mids to highs, Dolby Atmos audio sounds precise and immersive, even without rear speakers
  • Cons, Not much deep bass without optional (and pricey) subwoofer, No Bluetooth support, Trueplay audio tuning only available for iOS

  • Abstract:  As first impressions go, the Sonos Beam (Gen 2) just out over a month ago isn't much different from the original Beam compact soundbar back in 2018 that impressed so many people with its big sound. The design and size look familiar, though the cloth mate...
