The editors liked

  • Like
  • This is an ideal portrait lens on either camera type. It is also a remarkable optic when used in low light. With the two Canon bodies
  • Both of which have excellent low light performance
  • We were able to take photographs when almost in darkness.

The editors didn't like

  • Dislike
  • We could do without the slapping noise when focussing. What causes this in Sigma lenses?

  • Abstract:  Sigma's new 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM lens is designed for use with full frame digital cameras but can also be suitable for cameras with smaller APS-C sized sensors. On the Nikon D7000 body we used for our tests, it provided the 35mm focal length equivalent...

  • solid and stylish casing, brilliant image quality in the frame centre, sensational image quality on the edge of APSC, very good image quality on the edge of full frame, lack of noticeable problems with spherical aberration, moderate longitudinal chromatic
  • too high vignetting on full frame, I imagine Zeiss must gnash their collective teeth quite strongly
  • They invented the Otus series which was supposed to prove that, for a quite astronomical price, you can produce an optically outstanding lens practically without any flaws. Meanwhile S...

  • Abstract:  Nikon's mid-term refresh of the firm's hugely popular D800 and D800E models resulted in a single model, the D810. Like the D800E it aims to maximize the resolution of the full-frame 36-Mpix CMOS sensor and omits a modified AA filter completely. We've anal...

  • Sigma has produced an excellent lens here: as sharp as any of its contemporaries, even wide open at ƒ/1.4. As well, the lens offers remarkable tolerance to chromatic aberration, marred only by the presence of longitudinal chromatic aberration that seems t...

  • Abstract:  With a full-frame 18-Mpix CMOS sensor and twin Digic 5+ processers that's capable of continuous bursts of up 12 fps – the fastest of any professional DSLR currently - the Canon EOS-1 Dx is the firm's flagship press camera. We've assessed it with over 100...

  • Abstract:  In the first part of our comprehensive lens recommendations for the new entry-level Canon EOS Rebel T5 / 1200D, we've assessed a raft of primes from both the maker and third parties to see how well they perform on the camera. As well as highlighting the b...

  • Abstract:  Aimed at professional studio and landscape photographers, the full-frame 36-Mpix D800E with its modified AA filter effectively increasing resolution over the standard D800 model is the closest 35mm full-frame camera yet to rival larger formats in renderin...
