The editors liked

  • Tracks a larger room area
  • Gesture control is more versatile
  • Better in uneven or no light
  • Improved videochat
  • Microsoft's Xbox One offers impressive graphics and a solid list of exclusive 2015 titles. The Microsoft console currently edges ahead of the PS4 with a better selection of media apps. The console's fall-2015 dashboard update is a noticeable improvement
  • This more affordable Xbox One bundle drops the Kinect and matches the price of the PS4. Microsoft has also killed the paid Xbox Live Gold requirement to access entertainment apps
  • Beautiful graphics
  • Great gameplay experience
  • Subtly redesigned
  • Extraordinarily comfortable controller
  • Blu-ray disc playback
  • HDMI input for pass-through from Freeview/Sky decoder
  • Full web browser
  • YouTube support
  • Skype calling and other apps
  • Great interface
  • Kinect is impressive
  • Snapping works
  • Strong launch lineup
  • Easy video sharing

The editors didn't like

  • Kinect must be connected to console
  • Not built into one
  • Gesture control still a novelty to many
  • "Xbox
  • Go home" voice command
  • The Xbox One's new interface is still more convoluted than the PS4's. In general
  • The PS4 delivers slightly better installation times
  • Graphics and performance on cross-platform games. The Xbox One also lags behind the PS4 in its selection of indie games
  • The Xbox One's dashboard is still confusing at times and the PS4 generally delivers slightly better graphics and performance on multiplatform games so far. Selection of must-have titles is still weak compared to that of previous generation consoles
  • Menu system is an awkward mix of 360 and Windows 8
  • Space-hungry
  • Will not stand up on its end in ‘tower style'
  • Not compatible with Xbox 360 headsets
  • Some features currently missing for NZ users (voice commands
  • EPG)
  • Gold paywall
  • Controller still uses batteries
  • No OneGuide in UK

  • Xbox One Feature Demo It's not uncommon to have a specialized device for everything you want to do with your entertainment system. Microsoft's Xbox One tries to take all of them, crammed into...one...box, and unify the experience. Whoa. Consequently...

  • Instantaneous switching between games, apps and live TV and the best voice integration on any tech product we've ever used.
  • The design is big and bulky and hardcore gamers (and specsheet fanatics) may be disappointed that some games aren't turned up to 11....yet
  • Microsoft has bet big on the Xbox One. Sure, it's somewhat pricey but the tech giant will be hopeful that its new baby has enough bells and whistles on it to persuade even the biggest doubters to come aboard....

  • Abstract:  There aren't any fully-working Xbox One consoles for review just yet, we're a while off that, but Microsoft did let us get some time with a "non-working" sample. Although, we have a feeling that this console would have worked if we'd had a power adaptor t...

  • Abstract:  When Microsoft announced that it's new Xbox One console wouldn't have backward compatibility, it had to decide what to do with the Xbox 360. The answer, it turns out, was to redesign it to look like the Xbox One, to make it part of the family. Microsoft ...

  • Robust internal specs, Oodles of potential, Improved controls
  • Hulking brute of a machine, Lack of killer launch titles, Eye-watering price tag
  • Like its nearest and dearest rival, the Xbox One is absolutely loaded with potential. While it may have struggled in both user confidence and PR status in its first 12 months, Microsoft has done a confident job in cutting away the dead flesh of previous e...

  • Great exclusive titles, Superb controller, Improved software and apps ecosystem, More strong games on the horizon
  • Struggling to match the PS4 on raw performance, Big and bulky, Superceded by the Xbox One S with Project Scorpio on the way
  • If you were ready to write Microsoft's console off last year, prepare to change your mind. It's a fine console with powerful hardware, improved software and a great set of apps and services, and the performance disparities with PS4 are becoming less of a...

  • This is THE allinone entertainment unit with built in bluray, Simple to use for the whole family, Separate profiles for different users
  • It got hit with the ugly stick repeatedly, NZ content sucks, I can't use live TV with it and it would be good to have Quickflix etc on, Don't think you can just always sit down and play, updates come quite often
  • The Xbox One is a great device, it's in its early days and just like the 360, the best is yet to come. It is still worth being the centre of your setup, but just not as a pure games machine. I want to give it a higher score, but the lack of NZ support doe...

  • Altogether, I like the Xbox One. If my own Xbox 360 stopped working, I'd replace it with a One. When I have to give the review console back to Microsoft's PR firm, I'll be looking at prices and working out whether I want to keep playing all the new games...
