The editors liked

  • Cortana is fantastic
  • Better at being both a desktop and a tablet OS
  • Free for most
  • Start menu is functionally excellent
  • Action Center features are handy
  • Settings app is finally a Control Panel replacement
  • Universal apps are higher quality

The editors didn't like

  • Windows Hello requires new hardware for most
  • Microsoft Edge has a terrible logo and terrible name. Can we please go back to calling it Spartan?
  • Swapping between notebook and tablet mode can still feel a little disjointed at times
  • Will devs embrace Universal apps?
  • Some Windows 8.1 features may be missed
  • Expensive without free upgrade

  • There's lots of new features in Windows 10 and we certainly like it a lot, but there's also little doubt that Microsoft Is still playing catch-up with OS X in many key areas, including security and desktop features. Windows 10 is certainly more secure, an...

  • Performance, Start menu, Windows 10 Continuum
  • Price
  • With Microsoft starting to get to grips with a mobile-friendly operating system, it makes sense to compare it more and more with the competition's mobile offerings. While Apple has kept macOS and iOS clearly separate, Microsoft is providing a single opera...

  • Abstract:  Windows 10 has finally arrived. Thanks to a daring strategy on Microsoft's part, the latest version of their operating system allows you to upgrade from Windows 7 or 8.1 for free until July 29 2016 (as long as you're not on an Enterprise licence). Windows...

  • Abstract:  Windows 10 rights a lot of the wrongs done by Microsoft in Windows 8. One of the things that people hated about Windows 8 was the feeling that they were constantly being pushed to use "live tiles", which were designed for touch-based computing, even when...

  • Free upgrade, apps not always full-screen for better multi-tasking than Windows 8, Start menu back and improved, handy tablet mode, great Xbox and Office apps, robust and stable
  • Some minor bugs (Edge browser tabs timing out; Cortana not always understanding; odd glitches), lack of extensions in Edge browser, not easy to switch from Bing or default apps
  • Windows 10 is the most positive push for Microsoft's operating system in some years. It's a stable and good-looking operating system, it's not a risk to upgrade now if you're worried about applications compatibility (and the new apps, such as Mail a...

  • Dynamic UI, low system requirements, more secure apps, better browser, free to existing Windows users
  • Cortana doesn't always cooperate, Edge still needs work

  • One of the things that Microsft took care to do with Windows 10 was ensure that it arrived hassle-free and in proper working order via the cloud.Users had to simply reserve a copy, Microsoft would diagnose if the machine could handle Windows 10 and users...

  • Abstract:  The loss of the Start menu in Windows 8 caused a lot of confusion among users and was often cited as the primary reason for not upgrading from Windows 7. It is hardly surprising, then, that Microsoft is positioning the Start Menu as one of Windows 10's b...
