The editors didn't like
The lack of apps for the Windows 8 system
Windows Phone 8 app ecosystem
No expandable memory
$299 is a little pricey
A niche device
The Lumia 1020 is $100 pricier than most high-end smartphones. The lens makes it a little bulky. Multiple camera apps are confusing. It lacks manual f-stop control and presets for common shooting scenarios
Thick and bulky
Limited third-party app ecosystem
Camera app can be a little slow
Bulky
And has huge bump at the back that isn't aesthetically pleasing
Windows Phone 8 lacks photography apps to take advantage of camera
No expandable memory and no Qi wireless charging support

Macro support on the camera is practically non-existent
Abstract: The first thing to note about the Nokia Lumia 1020 is its startling design; although it's available in four colours, we were lucky enough to road test the luminous yellow model. And rather than making the phone look garish, the hazardous yellow simply add...
Abstract: I now have 3 very good smartphones with awesome cameras in my possession, so it would make sense for me to do a “camera face off”.We are going to compare the Nokia Lumia 1020 and Xperia Z1 against the new-comer – the Huawei P7.The test is in no way scient...
Excellent camera, tons photo-editing features, great build quality, better than average battery life, Nokia HERE services, Windows Phone runs like a charm
Windows Phone 8 app selection is still lagging behind iOS and Android, The handset is also pretty chunky and will not be to everyone's tastes
The Lumia 1020 is an interesting device. It has a market-leading camera, a unique overall design, plus excellent battery life and performance. However it is difficult to recommend the device with a new Nokia flagship –– the Lumia 1520 –– just around the ...

Image stabilisation great to assist with shots in low light, bright exposures, manual controls available, touchscreen is responsive, inherent smartphone abilities to share/apps, raw files hold plenty of detail at low ISO settings
Chunky for a smartphone, image quality can't always rival a dedicated compact camera, some settings may confuse the uninitiated, no microSD/SD storage, tricky to hold without accessory grip
Let's cut to the chase: the Nokia Lumia 1020 is the smartphone to beat when it comes to photography. Its camera is a serious bit of kit that, given the right conditions, will create exceptional shots. The caveat is that the best smartphone camera s...

Abstract: We’ve seen many smartphones claim that they produce the best image, but which one actually does? The two most niche camera phones on the market, the Lumia 1020 and Galaxy S4 Zoom have been out in the wild for quite some time, and we’ve been able to see me...
There is no doubt that the Nokia Lumia 1020 is a good phone, especially for those interested in photography. It is well made, looks great and has an excellent camera. However, there is simply no getting around the fact that it's a Microsoft phone and with...
Abstract: To capture a scene, we traditionally power up the camera, zoom and focus on an image and then hit the capture button. For most shots, this is more than ample to capture an image but what if there was another way? Imagine being able to capture a single ima...
WOW! the end of another interesting review, if this review has taught me anything its that anything is possible with smartphones as a few years ago I couldn't have dreamt up the 41 megapixel sensor for a phone! It's insane but it just shows you what a bi...
I'll end this article in the same way as I started it, the Nokia Lumia 1020 is an amazing camera. See what I did there? As good as the Nokia supplied software is I do feel like it could be so much better. It's only me being picky with the OS and the inner...

Best camera phone for image quality; Great build quality; Decent battery life
Windows Phone 8 app store still poorly stocked; Dual-core processor doesn't compete well against cheaper Android phones; Pricey
With its 41-megapixel sensor giving superb image quality, the Nokia Lumia 1020 is a great choice if photography is your chief concern. If a wide choice of apps is important though, Windows Phone 8 won't be to your taste. Instead, you'd be better off looki...
