  • Metal and glass, and very well made, Excellent performance thanks to Huawei's own technology, Black and white sensor produces some absolutely brilliant images, Includes an infrared port, one of the features that has gone missing in recent years
  • Heavy, Screen is only Full HD, No stylus support, making it not so much a Note replacement but just a very big phone, No water resistance
  • If you can forgive the lack of water resistance, the slightly older Gorilla Glass, and the fact that this is a big and relatively heavy smartphone, Huawei's Mate 9 is a solid device to look at, and we mean “solid” in every sense of the word. There isn't mu...

  • Great battery, Very fast, Good value, Potentially-amazing camera
  • Potentially-disappointing camera
  • It succeeds in the three key areas required of smart phones: battery, performance and camera. As such it's great value at $999. However, the camera can struggle in basic low-light conditions. We hope this will get fixed down the line...

  • Fun, innovative dual lens camera, Top notch battery life, Better bang-for-buck than other flagships, 64GB of expandable storage
  • No water-resistance, Huawei's take on Android needs more refinement, Will be too big for some, No support for Daydream VR
  • Huawei's Mate 9 is a great choice for those looking for a big phone. Almost two days of battery life, an innovative camera, and a price tag that undercuts the competition make it a perfect device for those still mourning the loss of their Note 7...

  • The Huawei Mate 9 has more power than you'll need, a camera that's great for arty shots and a battery that won't quit on you by dinner
  • Its screen is only full HD and its design is utterly forgettable
  • It doesn't have the flame-prone Note 7's beautiful lines and curves, but if you're after a high-performance big-screened phone that won't set your pants on fire, the Mate 9 is a great option...

  • Curved 2K screen, Extra RAM boost to 6GB
  • Horrendously high price, Emotion UI still strange
  • Huawei's premium smartphone looks, feels and is better than the Huawei Mate 9 in quite a few ways, but it's far too expensive to recommend. If you're a fan of Porsche though, you now have a new phone to lust after...
