The editors liked

  • The image quality
  • Both in jpeg and RAW
  • Is excellent. Up to ISO 3200 noise is not an issue. Even jpegs have fine noise reduction that doesn't degrade the image and when the large 24 million pixel image is reduced to A4 size for printing noise is invisibl
  • 24Mp APSC format sensor
  • Excellent interface
  • Plenty of control
  • A very well-designed mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera
  • The EOS M3 offers high-quality photos
  • Picture clarity and colours
  • Useful live view and great screen
  • Intuitive controls and fun to use

The editors didn't like

  • The eyelevel electronic viewfinder is an expensive option
  • Limited EFM mount lens range
  • Frustrating autofocus system
  • No viewfinder builtin
  • It's slow
  • With a relatively limited feature set for the price
  • Handgrip is shallow
  • Dials hard to move

  • Abstract:  Canon makes great DSLR cameras, there's no doubt about that. But in 2012 when the company dipped into the mirrorless market with the EOS M, it was unusually behind the curve. The EOS M2 appeared in Asia to try and fill a gap, some firmware update appeared...

  • Good handling and control, Well implemented touchscreen, Decent images
  • Relatively slow all-round performance, Disappointing dynamic range, Chunky kit lens, Limited lens selection
  • The Canon EOS M3 is a much better, more complete-feeling camera than the EOS M. But perhaps that's the least you would hope for. More manual control, better AF performance and a new processor were almost a given for Canon to turn its CSC fortunes around....

  • Compact size, Good image stabilisation, Easy to use, Good touchscreen, Easy WiFi setup and connect
  • Slow focussing, Below-par low light performance, Limited dynamic range, Lacklustre build, Weighs heavier than comparison
  • The Canon EOS M3 brings a compact form-factor into the interchangeable lens category, along with decent daylight imaging. However, its low-light performance is below par, it has a limited dynamic range, renders high noise in ISO settings of 1000 and above...

  • Abstract:  With its focus on digital SLRs, Canon has been slower than its rivals in coming up with a solid mirrorless camera to fill a growing gap in the market. There's a reason – Canon has produced more than 110 million interchangeable EF Lenses used with its EOS...

  • Abstract:  Canon is probably the most reluctant maker of mirrorless cameras. Its first mirrorless interchangeable lens model was launched in October 2012, several years after Olympus and Sony. The EOS M fared so poorly that its successor, EOS M2, never reached our s...
