  • Abstract:  Image: “Archos 5”] The Archos 5 is clearly a success for its manufacturer. Its video features are fun to use, thanks largely to its relatively big touchscreen, and it’s multipurpose, with something for everybody. It lands handily in the top tier of mu...

  • Bright crisp video screen, Finger swipes can flip through and magnify photos, Download movies, TV shows, and music from Archos Media Club without a computer, Kickstand for handsfree viewing, Speaker for nobuds listening
  • Not a multitouch screen, "Plugin" software at odds with outofbox compatibility, Component video input on optional DVR Station buggy

  • Bright, high-resolution touch screen; supports a wide variety of formats; compatible with Macs and PCs; Opera Web browser
  • Screen and body prone to fingerprints; must pay extra for add-ons; requires proprietary USB cable

  • When I started reviewing Archos media players, I felt there was a real niche market for them among users who like to watch video while on the move. I thought Archos did a great job in the past filling this niche, and I really was hopeful that they wo...

  • Excellent video and audio quality, Solidly built, Great screen
  • Stylus would have been useful, Non-removable battery, Web browsing could have been better
  • A few flaws but this tablet is a winner for its all-round performance ...

  • A beautiful piece of hardware let down by a range of minor issues. If Archos can sort these out then it will have a great big-screen alternative to the iPod touch....

  • Attractive, sleek design, Sharp, responsive touchscreen, Very good A/V quality on player, Good Internet browsing and e-mail experience
  • Audio sometimes out of sync with TV output, Recording with optional DVR station is problematic, Picks up fingerprints easily, Issues with CinemaNow downloads
  • The Archos 5 is the sexiest device yet from the French PMP pioneer. It has a sleeker body than its predecessors, and eschews physical controls for an entirely touch-based interface. Available in 60, 120, and 250GB hard drive capacities, it’s even pr...

  • Tons of storage. Sleek design. Huge, beautiful screen. Built-in Wi-Fi and Web browser. On-screen home button for one-click main menu access. No need for stylus.
  • Quite expensive. Power button is also the reset button. Touch-screen interface is not as sophisticated as iPod touchs. UI could stand to be streamlined a bit—requires too many clicks at times.
  • This hard drive based PMP offers oodles of storage and a lot of the features that come with the flash-based iPod touch, including built-in Wi-Fi, a Web browser, and a big, beautiful touch screen....

  • The Archos 5—actually the company's sixth-generation handheld—is nice, but it's not the iPod touch killer I was hoping for after the initial demo. On one hand, the touchscreen interface is a fantastic upgrade over their last gen. The U...
