The editors liked

  • Incredibly fast performance
  • Lightning connector improves over dock-connector
  • Better camera performance overall
  • Outstanding display
  • Slick user experience and software
  • Dual-channel HSPA+ speeds
  • Great display
  • Easier connector
  • Faster innards
  • The newest iPad's faster A6X processor adds extra system speed and graphics power. Improved worldwide cellular compatibility makes the LTE model a more appealing proposition. And the iOS App Store remains best in class
  • With the widest selection

The editors didn't like

  • Slightly decreased battery life
  •  Lightning accessories still in short supply
  • Wi-Fi
  • $539 (16GB)
  • $649 (32GB)
  • $759 (64GB). Wi-Fi + Cellular
  • $679 (16GB)
  • $789 (32GB)
  • $899 (64GB)
  • Not 4G-capable in Australia
  • Thicker & heavier than predecessor
  • Gets warm during regular use
  • Not much of an update
  • Still slightly weighty
  • Price too high
  • The fourth-gen iPad is otherwise identical to its recent predecessor -- same size
  • Weight
  • And Retina screen. It's heavy to hold in one hand
  • And most older accessories won't work without investing in a pricey Lightning adapter

  • Retina display, Small text is easy to read, iOS 6 has tons of features, Battery life, Lots of apps, A6X processor
  • Nonexpandable memory, Proprietary port / Closed "world" that may turn some off, Maps still behind the competition, Will the tiny Lightning connector be sturdy enough for docking stations?
  • The iPad 4 is an update that definitively confirms Apple's tablet range as one of the very best there are. It has set things straight after an iPad 3 that was very good but wasn't quite a home run in terms of processing power and longevity. The iPad 4 is ...

  • Incredibly fast, Gorgeous screen, Unbeatable app selection, Impressive WiFi performance, Upgraded cameras
  • Lightning port means accessory issues
  • Apple’s new iPad is quite simply the best 10in tablet out there. The iPad’s performance is head and shoulders above the competition, and it provides a premium screen and processor to match its premium price. The iPad's expansive library of tablet-focuse...

  • New A6X processor is incredibly fast, Retina Display is still excellent, Battery Life even better than iPad 3, Lightning connector is better than old connector
  • Lightning connector require all new docks and cables, Still no expandable storage or other inbuilt connections
  • The new iPad with Retina Display is the best large tablet going with better battery life and performance than both the iPad 3 and the other large tablet competition. It also boasts the best build quality and the most comprehensive selection of truly table...

  • Faster graphics processor, better frontfacing camera, UKcompatible 4G connectivity and that same design we know and love.
  • This is the latest gadget from Apple to switch to the Lightning connector, making existing chargers and speakers incompatible
  • Same design, same weight, same display – this is a tweak to the existing iPad, which it has replaced, rather than an all-new machine. Not worth upgrading to unless you want the 4G speeds, but a great place to start if you don't have an iPad....

  • It’s daft to say Apple’s fourth-generation iPad is its best yet - how could it not be? If you're sure you want an iPad, fanboy or not, it's the one to go for. Still, there’s no need at all to upgrade if you have an iPad 3, of course - wait for the 5, ...
